Singing in the Rain

By Mark David Blum, Esq.

The rain started today about half hour before the start of the daily parade. Hence, for the second day in a row, I have yet to see the parade. Ten more days to go, I am sure I will get there.

Rather than stand in the downpour, I decided to call it a day. Six hours was enough and I had seen and touched a day’s worth of the Fair’s blessings. It was time to leave.

Dragging my weary bones to the bus to Shoppingtown and parking myself in line and fortunately out of the rain I stood with the growing rainshower amidst a growing crowd of people wanting on a bus already. It only took about twenty minutes but eventually the bus showed up and filled up and pulled out of the parking lot.

Two seconds onto the highway and I learn I have the singing bus driver. Without notice, he starts signing aloud over the loudspeaker, “Singing in the Rain, I’m Singing in the Rain”. Clearly he was no Gene Kelly but that did not stop the busdriver man from belting out his refrains.

NEVER before on a regular bus route has a driver broken out into song. This is just one of the perks that come upon unexpectedly when you are a part of the Fair. “What a glorious feeling, I’m happy again.”
